About the Kigali Genocide Memorial
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a solemn tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide in Rwanda. It serves both as a final resting place for over 250,000 victims and as a center for education and remembrance

Location
Situated in the Gisozi neighborhood of Kigali, Rwanda, the memorial is approximately a 10-minute drive from the city center. It is easily accessible by car, taxi, or motorcycle taxi (boda boda). For those using public transportation, the nearest bus stop is at Kinamba on KN 8 Avenue, about half a mile away.
Visiting Hours
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last admission at 4:00 PM. There are some days, however, that it is closed, including:
- Last Saturday of Each Month: Open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM due to Umuganda, a national community service day.
- April 7: Typically closed in the morning for Kwibuka, the annual commemoration of the genocide.
- Public Holidays: Closed on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year’s Day (January 1).
Admission and Tours
- Entry Fee: Admission to the memorial is free. However, donations are encouraged to support the site’s maintenance and educational programs.
