The Maasai Mara National Reserve in south-western Kenya is arguably the greatest wildlife theatre on Earth. Covering 1,500 km² of open savannah, the Mara harbours exceptional Big Five concentrations, resident leopard along riverine forests, and Africa's densest cheetah populations. From July to October the legendary Great Wildebeest Migration delivers one of nature's most breathtaking spectacles: over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra crossing the crocodile-filled Mara River from Tanzania's Serengeti. Outside migration season the reserve remains extraordinary: golden-hour lion hunts, balloon safaris at dawn, and luxury camps in private conservancies offering exclusive game-viewing away from park crowds.
