Tsavo National Park is Kenya's largest protected area, split into Tsavo East and Tsavo West by the Nairobi–Mombasa highway, covering over 22,000 km², larger than Wales. Tsavo East is famed for its red-dust elephants, vast buffalo herds, and sweeping semi-arid plains ideal for panoramic game drives. Tsavo West is more varied: dramatic volcanic ridges, the Mzima Springs (where hippo and crocodile can be observed from an underground chamber), and lush riverine vegetation sheltering lion and leopard. Perfectly positioned between Nairobi and the Kenyan coast, Tsavo is the cornerstone of the classic Kenya safari-and-beach combination.
