About Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti National Park is the stage for one of nature's most extraordinary spectacles: the Great Wildebeest Migration, in which over 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, and 250,000 Thomson's gazelle complete a 1,200 km annual circuit in search of fresh grazing. The Serengeti's 14,750 km² of seemingly endless savannah hold wildlife in every direction: lion prides resting on ancient granite kopjes, cheetah accelerating across open plains, leopard draped over fever trees, and the Grumeti and Mara rivers writhing with Nile crocodile. The southern Ndutu region hosts calving season from December to March; the northern Serengeti sees the most dramatic river crossings from July to October.
