About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania's most underappreciated safari gems and a highlight of the Northern Circuit. Named for the Tarangire River threading through it, the park is best visited in the dry season (June–October), when it hosts Tanzania's largest seasonal elephant herds, over 3,000 animals drawn to the river's permanent water. The park's baobab forests, open floodplains, and acacia woodland are visually dramatic and support lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, and over 550 bird species. Less crowded than the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, Tarangire rewards travellers who venture beyond the circuit's most visited parks with an authentically wild, uncrowded bush experience.
