About Kibale Forest & Chimpanzees

Kibale National Park in western Uganda is Africa's leading chimpanzee destination, home to over 1,400 individuals in one of the continent's largest and most intact equatorial forest reserves. Kibale's chimpanzee tracking experience, following habituated communities with expert guides, is widely regarded as the world's finest chimp encounter. The park also supports 12 other primate species including red colobus, black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, and olive baboon. The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary on the park's edge, managed by the local community, is one of Uganda's finest birding sites and a model for conservation tourism benefiting local communities.
