About Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest protected area, bisected by the Victoria Nile as it drops through a narrow 7-metre gorge in one of the world's most powerful waterfalls. Boat safaris from Paraa to the base of the falls offer extraordinary wildlife viewing: enormous hippo pods, Nile crocodile, buffalo, elephant, and a remarkable array of waterbirds including the prehistoric-looking shoebill stork, one of Africa's most sought-after birding targets. The savannah north of the Nile supports lion, leopard, giraffe, and kob antelope; the riverine forest to the south shelters chimpanzees and over 450 bird species. Murchison Falls is the essential complement to any Bwindi gorilla trekking itinerary.
