About Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park in north-western Rwanda is Africa's most visited gorilla destination, protecting five of the Virunga chain's eight volcanoes and roughly a third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. The park is just two hours from Kigali by road, meaning guests can fly in and be tracking gorillas through ancient montane forest within the same day. Trekking time varies from 30 minutes to several hours depending on where the habituated family is ranging, and the one-hour contact time that follows, sitting within metres of a silverback and his family, is routinely described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Rwanda's Golden Monkey tracking, also available in Volcanoes, adds a second rare primate encounter to any itinerary.
