One night away from the coast, two wildlife settings
Leave your beach hotel early and, by lunchtime, you can be looking across Tsavo East's red-earth plains. Elephants wear the colour of the soil they dust themselves with, giraffes browse the trees and the open country gives your guide room to follow what is happening around you. This two-day safari from Mombasa pairs a game drive in Tsavo East National Park with a night at Salt Lick Safari Lodge in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.
Your Waterhole room is part of Salt Lick's raised lodge, linked by walkways above the ground. Between drives, spend time watching the waterhole or visit the underground hide for a closer view when animals come to drink. Lunch at Ashnil Aruba Lodge, an evening sanctuary drive and another outing before breakfast make the most of the overnight stay. You return to the coast on Day 2, with lunch on the way. It is a compact safari for a beach holiday, with the full route, included meals and adult group rates set out below.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Mombasa to Tsavo East, then Salt Lick in Taita Hills
Your Saringi driver-guide collects you early from your Mombasa hotel, with other coastal pick-up points arranged in advance. Travel inland in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof as the coastal greenery gives way to drier bush. Once inside Tsavo East National Park, begin a game drive across the wide plains, looking for red-dusted elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and antelope. Your guide watches for lions too, taking time with the sightings you find. At midday, stop for lunch at Ashnil Aruba Lodge overlooking Aruba Dam. Then leave the national park and continue to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary for your overnight stay at Salt Lick Safari Lodge. Settle into your Waterhole room before an evening game drive through the sanctuary. Dinner is served at the lodge, where the floodlit waterhole gives you somewhere to keep watching after dark. If you would like to join the lodge's optional night drive, we can confirm availability and the separate charge.
Day 2Morning drive in Taita Hills, then return to Mombasa
Head out at first light for a game drive while the air is still cool. Follow the sanctuary tracks with your guide, watching for predators returning from the night's activity and plains animals beginning to move. Back at Salt Lick, sit down to breakfast. If time allows before check-out, visit the underground viewing hide: its ground-level windows give a different perspective on animals coming to the waterhole. Leave the sanctuary for the coast, stopping for lunch along the way. An afternoon drop-off at your Mombasa hotel is planned. A Mombasa port drop-off or return to another coastal hotel is arranged in advance around your onward schedule.
