From the coast to Tsavo's springs and Amboseli's elephant country
The road inland from Mombasa leads into Tsavo West's rocky hills, baobab valleys and volcanic country. At Mzima Springs, clear water gathers in pools where hippos and crocodiles live. Nearby, the black rock of Shetani Lava Flow tells another part of the landscape's story. Your first night is at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, with time on the terrace looking towards its waterhole and the Chyulu Hills.
On Day 2, you continue to Amboseli and stay at Ol Tukai Lodge. Here the drives follow open plains and green wetlands, watching elephant families as they feed and move between the swamps. When the clouds clear, Kilimanjaro rises beyond them. There is an afternoon drive, a visit to Observation Hill and an early outing before breakfast on your final morning. This three-day safari gives you two nights in the parks before the road journey back to your coastal hotel.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Mombasa to Tsavo West and Mzima Springs
Meet your Saringi driver-guide at your Mombasa hotel for the early departure. The journey inland is in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, with collection details agreed in advance if you are staying elsewhere on the coast. Inside Tsavo West, the game drive winds through rocky hills and baobab-dotted valleys, with views towards the Chyulu Hills. Look for elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lesser kudu and klipspringer; your guide also watches the thicker cover for lions and leopards. Break for lunch, then visit Mzima Springs in the afternoon. Follow the walking trail beside the spring-fed pools, looking for hippos and crocodiles. When accessible, the underwater chamber gives a view of the fish below the surface and, occasionally, a passing hippo. Continue to Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge for your overnight stay. Spend some time on the terrace overlooking the waterhole before dinner.
Day 2Shetani Lava Flow, then Amboseli National Park
After breakfast, drive past Shetani Lava Flow on your way out of Tsavo West. The dark volcanic rock spreads across the country beneath the hills, an absorbing stop for photographs before continuing towards Amboseli. Aim to reach Ol Tukai Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, explore the park's open plains and wetlands. Elephant families come to feed around the swamps, sharing the landscape with buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hippos and waterbirds. The open country lets you spend time watching their movements. Visit Observation Hill for a view across the basin, with Kilimanjaro beyond the park when the weather is clear. Return to Ol Tukai for dinner and the second night of your safari.
Day 3Sunrise in Amboseli, then the road back to Mombasa
Set out at sunrise for a pre-breakfast game drive. The light changes quickly across the plains, and a clear morning can bring the mountain into view behind the elephants. Take time with the wildlife you find, then return to Ol Tukai for breakfast. After check-out, begin the long journey back to the coast, stopping for lunch en route. This is a full travelling day, with a late-afternoon or early-evening arrival at your Mombasa hotel planned. A drop-off at Mombasa port or another coastal hotel is arranged in advance around the journey and your onward schedule.
